- "Pathspace is a dimension even higher than hyperspace. In pathspace, the Bavakh are nothing but ants marching on a line. When the Bavakh invade us, they'll be completely vulnerable to anyone waiting in pathspace—and they'll be gone before they even catch sight of our world."
— Subject K's daughter, Immortal Defense
Dimensional space was a minor plot mechanic used by the Styles Brothers during the Immortal Defense subplot early in DYOS XI. It expanded on the concept of hyperspace to include several additional dimensions (some from the game, some invented), with each plane able to alter its preceding level(s) with impunity. By rank-order they are:
The highest of all spaces. Narratorspace is where the Narrators are usually found. Those in Narratorspace have a lot of creative influence on the people beneath them in all spaces, even having as much as the ability to warp reality itself to their whims if they so choose to narrate it.
However, beings in Narratorspace find it hard to speak directly to the people below, due to a series of four barriers and walls put in place long ago. Although the fourth wall does seem to be a tad bit flimsy...
Rests above Pathspace and below Narratorspace. Beings in Hackspace view Pathspace as a line rather than as an infinite void. Objects travelling through can be attacked with impunity. Stylesrj became a Hackspace entity in order to fight Pul Wat Aa who was using Pathspace to attack enemies in Hyperspace.
Rests above Hyperspace and below Hackspace. Beings in Pathspace can attack Hyperspace without them giving any chance of retaliation. This means a determined attacker could destroy fleets of ships and allow their own forces to take control of the galaxy.
The quintessential science fiction plot device enabling faster-than-light travel. Unlike other forms of dimensional space, hyperspace is treated as a parallel plane and does not directly interact with 'realspace'.
Rests below normal space itself. Unlike the relationships between other spaces, however, entities in normal space cannot attack down into Hellspace with impunity. The only thing capable of attacking beings in Hellspace are beings in Pathspace. Hellspace is said to be the only thing preventing the entity of Gutei from ever escaping into the normal world. Hellspace is a battleground of Pathspace beings trying to stop the destruction of existence altogether or something...
