The Tupolev Tu-95 (Russian: Туполев Ту–95) (NATO reporting name: Bear) is a large, four-engine turboprop powered strategic bomber and missile platform. First flown in 1952, the Tu-95 was put into service by the former Soviet Union in 1956 and is expected to serve the Russian Air Force until at least 2040. It remains the fastest propeller-driven aircraft (a bigger, heavier, passenger version Tu-114 with de-rated engines, holds the FAI certified world speed record at 541.23 mph average speed on a 1000 km closed circuit.) It is currently the only turboprop-powered strategic bomber in operation to date.

Coruscanti variant

The Republic of Coruscant had acquired Tu-95 schematics by reverse-engineering purchases of varying quality from Russia. The Coruscanti Air Force was looking for a capable bomber to replace the ageing B-17s, B-25s, and B-29s.

The Coruscantis upgraded the Tu-95 design to better fit the new era of the Information Age, including the use of fly-by-wire technologies, advanced radar, more powerful engines, Gatling lasers for the tail gunner, and advanced bomb sights. This gave the bomber a unique code name of Cyberbird to reflect the advanced avionics and technologies built into the plane.

The Coruscanti variant has proved itself beyond all expectations when used on other planets[1] on bombing runs over enemy bases. Soon, many Air Force personnel were stationed along with their Tu-95CBs aboard Venator-Class Star Destroyers to further project the ships' zone of control.

Unlike the majority of the Air Force's starfighters, the Tu-95 requires a lengthy runway for takeoff and landing. Its adoption into space-theater military doctrine has reasserted the role of the Venator Star Destroyer in Coruscanti military strategy.

Naval service

Within the Coruscanti Navy, Tu-95s are used on planets exclusively for reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare. The Navy does not employ a variant model like the Soviets, but the same build as the Air Force.

Weather Reconnaissance

On Earth, the Coruscanti Air Force and Navy jointly conduct hurricane hunter missions during a hurricane season. There are three squadrons to cover Coruscanti territory, each operating over a designated section of the ocean. The 1st Weather Reconnaissance Squadron operates within the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico and is based in various bases on the East Coast of the United States; the 2nd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron operates within the eastern section of the Pacific Ocean and is based in California; the 3rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron operates within the western section of the Pacific Ocean and is based in Tokyo, Japan.

Civilian version

Currently there are only a handful civilian versions of the Tu-95CB, used mainly for aerial firefighting by refitting the bomb bay compartments with a voluminous water tank.

Behind the Scenes

The idea of a nation making copies of an original bomber and/or fighter is nothing new in Real Life. The People's Liberation Army Air Force of the People's Republic of China had made copied variants of Soviet bombers and fighters, such as the Chengdu J-7 (MiG-21) and the Xian H-6 (Tu-16).
