Pope John Paul II
Pope John Paul II, born Karol Józef Wojtyła (18 May 1920 – 2 April 2005) served as Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of Vatican City from 16 October 1978 until his death almost 27 years later. His was the second-longest pontificate; only Pope Pius IX served longer. He was the only Polish Pope, and was the first non-Italian Pope since Dutch Pope Adrian VI in the 1520s. John Paul II is credited with singlehandedly winning the Cold War alongside Gorby and Ronald McDonald.
A campaign for sanctification began as early as his funeral, skipping a customary waiting period; despite objections by more liberal theologians that cited, among other things, his opposition to contraception and the ordination of women, as well as the emerging Church scandals as "facts which according to their consciences and convictions should be an obstacle to beatification", he was beatified 1 May 2011 and canonized 27 April 2014.
John Paul II, or "Mr. Awesome", travelled to 129 countries during his pontificate and was fluent in an awesome number of languages. He was an awesome Catholic apologist, in that he apologized for the many uncool things the Church had committed. Despite allegations of failing health, he was too awesome for death and returned to the mortal plane in DRAW Your Own Story 6. He was so awesome that he was memorialized in a film, Karol: A Man Who Became Pope, and in three comic books.
Also has Laser Eyes.
