Thermoptic camouflage
This page was originally sporked from Wikipedia. |
Active camouflage, adaptive camouflage or thermoptic camouflage is a group of camouflage technologies which allow an object to blend into its surroundings by use of panels or coatings capable of altering their appearance, color, luminance and reflective properties.
Active camouflage has the capacity to provide perfect concealment from visual detection. Thermoptic camouflage offers concealment in both the visible light and infrared spectra. However, it will flicker or cease to function upon contact with water (dependent upon quantity or intensity) or a harsh physical impact.
Stealth Boy
The RobCo stealth boy 3001 is a personal stealth device worn on one's wrist. The technology is derived from the Republic Stealth Armor packed in a more portable device. The Republic's models lack the psychological side effects that are evident in the Fallout versions. Access to this device is heavily regulated and only a select few individuals have access to Stealth Boys.
Republic Stealth Armor

The Stealth Armor developed by Megatech has been in use for only a short time. The suits are reserved chiefly for Storm Commando units of the Republic of Coruscant and members of Public Security Section 9. The suit bears similarity to the Hei Gui Chinese Stealth Armor, an armor suit originally worn by the elite Chinese Crimson Dragoon troops in Fallout 3, although units in Section 9 use a home-grown design. In homage to the Fallout series, Megatech called these suits "Republic Stealth Armor" after the suits found in the game.
Storm Commando units typically use the Republic Stealth Armor in sabotage, sniping, rescue, and kidnapping missions. More advanced models of the Republic Armor serves as an under-armor for the Brotherhood of Steel.
Production
Production of the Republic Stealth Armor started just hours after the start of the Third Nazi War; however the Republic Army could not distribute the suits quick enough for the Storm Commandos to use in their rescue of CivGeneral and his friends.
Due to the secretive nature of the suit design, it is only available to Storm Commando units, Section 9 personnel, and by special request to individuals with close ties to Coruscanti military brass. Major Kusanagi has pointedly requested that CivGeneral and Samus Aran receive their own Stealth Armor suits for future missions.
Cuttlefish Cloaking
- Main article: Cuttlefish Cloak
Early DYOS V saw Stylesrj seeking help from Prince Kassad in using cloaking technology. One particular device was the Cuttlefish Cloak, which was used in a failed attempt to bypass the Hutts. This failure was attributed to using the outdated Cuttlefish Cloak XI, and not the Cuttlefish Cloak XII, which only cost an extra dollar on Amazon.com.
The Cloak has since been improved into the Cuttlefish XV which can be placed in skin-tight suits, similar to the Republic Stealth Armour, but harder to detect and much tougher in construction; however, design limitations have produced only five suits, all in the possession of Stylesrj's forces.
The Arbiter
During DYOS 10, before turning into a zombie, choxorn (then under the alias of the Arbiter) demonstrated the use of thermoptic camouflage by systematically bonking Stylesrj (as Chell from Portal) on the head with a frying pan.
