The Battle of Los Angeles (20 January–11 February 2010) was the concluding operation of the Battle of the Bulge. Coruscanti forces drove the Enclave out of the continental United States, forcing a retreat into islands situated in the Pacific Ocean.

Background

In the aftermath of the Gargantua's rampage, Los Angeles was the only functioning seaport on the American Pacific coast. The Enclave entrenched themselves in the city as they conduced mass evacuations to rebase their remaining forces; having determined America a lost war, Dr. Breen elected to prepare for an all-out assault on Japan,[1] and ordered the establishment of a new power base across the islands of the Pacific.

Battle

The battle started not long after the Battle of Las Vegas and CivGeneral's recovery from an infection of the X Parasite.[2] Los Angeles was by and large a ruined city; even so, sewers and subway systems were usable, and Coruscanti forces under the command of Major Kusanagi exploited the derelict infrastructure to ambush enemy forces and quickly secure key areas of the city.

The garrison force was understrength, having been sacrificed to cover for evacuating ships. The commanding officer promptly surrendered to the Coruscantis at their field headquarters underneath the Hollywood sign. Neither the Free Western Army nor Coruscanti troops encountered street gangs or bandits that had plagued many other cities; they had either been drafted into service for the Enclave or executed for resistance.[3]

The war branches

Although the Enclave had been ousted from mainland America, the Greater German Space Reich had opened and unexpected front in Europe.[4] Believing North America to be secure, Coruscanti command divided its forces into two major theaters. Kusanagi received a brevet promotion to Major General and command of the Pacific Theater, with the duty to defend Japan and prevent Enclave advancement into the Eastern Union. Surface Marshal CivGeneral was made commander of the the European Theater.
